Celebrating Christ the King and More
On Sunday, 26 November, the 10 AM Mass at our parish, St Augustine’s Church, was rather special for various reasons. Firstly, we celebrated Christ the King. Secondly, we had the baptism of a baby, Theodore, who is only a few months old. Thirdly, we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Fr Mark Raper SJ as a Jesuit and had an “Au Revoir” party for his return to Australia.
We usually have one or two celebrants at Mass but ten priests concelebrated on that day – some of them are members of the Jesuit community and others were guest priests including Monsignor Andrea, the Vatican representative for Myanmar. The choir sang beautiful hymns fitting to the solemnity of Christ the King and everybody joined in singing.
After Mass we proceeded to the parish hall to enjoy lunch. Some parishioners sang uplifting songs on a stage beautifully decorated for the occasion. There was also a presentation of gifts to thank Fr Mark for his generous presence, contribution and support to many people in Myanmar. We are grateful to God for this lovely day.
Christmas at FCJ Preschool, Dalla
Christmas always brings joy to everyone and in FCJ Preschool Dalla, preparations started in October. Christmas decorations created by children were hung on the ceiling and on the wall. Children practiced dancing to Burmese, Tamil and English songs. In the evening the day before the Christmas celebration, we were not sure that the celebration could take place because there was a sudden change regarding the security situation. Thank God, finally we were able to celebrate it. We enjoyed the celebration. Parents could watch their children’s performance. The kids received Christmas presents. Everyone smiled. What a joy it is to share happiness and hope.
