Sr Liz, fcJ reports on the Let’s Find Our Voice program, a wellbeing project that brings together the residents from Cooinda with students from FCJ College Benalla, Australia.
For some years now the Year 7 students at FCJ College, Benalla have joined with the residents of Cooinda Aged Care to produce a lively and fun event prior to Christmas. Check their lively and joyful 2019 performance here.
This year, the Executive Manager of Cooinda, did not wish to jeopardise the wellbeing of his residents in Cooinda as the number of residents who had succumbed to Covid had been low and he wanted to keep it that way.
Cathie Burton, the music co-ordinator at the College, came up with an alternate plan. She invited senior residents from around town. Quite a few came from the U3A choir and several parishioners as well; I also joined them. I couldn’t believe how one person could bring three different groups together, all on different notes, plus control the lively Year 7’s. After six weeks of rehearsals for us oldies and many more for the Year 7’s. All our voices came together beautifully on the day.
