When the capitulars arrived at the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre for the General Chapter, we entered a welcoming and beautiful space. The Centre had commissioned artwork from artist Doug Driediger, Creative Director of Metrographics, a graphic design and art company in Calgary.
Between the entrance doors, there is a wooden carving of the women at the foot of the Cross; the carving is given deeper meaning with a quote from Marie Madeleine, our foundress.
On the opposite wall, there is a painting of a tree which grows along the riverbank here at the Centre. This ‘trinity tree’ is the logo of the Centre.
Two paintings in the foyer depict CREATION and RELATIONSHIP.
« Let us be still, reflecting the Beauty and Mystery of the Giver of Life »
« Let us gather in relationship »
In the elevator and staircase lobby the words below are beautifully painted.
We wish to acknowledge that the FCJ Christian Life Centre is situated on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 Region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, including Chiniki, Bearpaw and Wesley First Nations. The city of Calgary is also home the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. Their spiritual and practical relationships to the land create a rich heritage for our learning and our life as a community.
