Global Day of Action for Climate Justice

The Global Day of Action for Climate Justice took place in many parts of the world on Saturday 16th November. Sisters MaryAnne and Paola fcJ joined the Christian Climate Action group composed of people from many denominations as they marched through central London. Other groups represented were Green Christian, Laudato Si Movement, Columban Justice, Peace and Ecology Team, Columban Sisters, Quakers in Britain and Faith for the Climate Network.

The groups wanted to lobby the UK government and world leaders to work towards climate justice. Other participants in the march highlighted the present plight of the Palestinian people and other countries in perilous situations and made the link between climate justice and peace.

The march, which began at the British Museum and ended at Downing Street, was very peaceful and at times there was an almost festive air.  There was a wide range of participants, people of all ages and ethnic groups including many young families with small children and babies.

It was great to be part of such an enthusiastic gathering and to connect with many people as we walked along together. MaryAnne and Paola were grateful for the opportunity to represent our FCJ commitment to care for our common home. We can only pray that the forthcoming COP29 will be able to make a difference for good in the struggle for Climate Justice.
