From 14th-18th January I attended a theology colloquium at the Pastoral Center, Baan Phu Waan, Bangkok, with the theme: “Without a vision the people will perish….”. The colloquium was organized by the Women of Wisdom and Action initiative, which began seven years ago as a collaboration between the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University – Berkeley Campus, the USA Province of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity. The initiative’s goal is the theological leadership formation for women from Asia. It is sponsored by the Henry Luce and Conrad N. Hilton foundations.
The colloquium gave opportunity for female Asian theologians to share with one another theological insights from their studies. The participants were women theologians and women doing theology from different nationalities: China, India, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico, Germany, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and USA. I felt enriched and strengthened by their reflections and insights. I was deeply touched and in tears especially by sharing by women from China, Vietnam and Myanmar, by their spirit of perseverance and endurance, by commitment to serve, by their faith and hope in the time of suffering. This Colloquium has lifted up my heart and united us to continue journeying with a deeper ‘faith seeking experience and understanding’.
