Friday 29 January marked a new stage in our journey in the ministry of Catholic education in France.
A Mass of thanksgiving took place in Notre Dame de France, the FCJ School in Paris, to mark the handover of the congregational leadership of the school to the Society of Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (rscj).
A ceremony had taken place in October 2022, to mark a similar handover of École Saint Michel, the FCJ School in Nantes, France, also to the Society of the Sacred Heart.
This was an occasion tinged with sadness at letting go of our school that the Faithful Companions of Jesus have led for over 180 years, but it was also a joy-filled moment as we rest assured that the school will continue to live vibrantly into the future. Marie-Annick, on behalf of the FCJ Society presented an alabaster statue of Notre Dame de France to Sr. Sophie Maille rscj, who was representing her provincial at the Mass.
Devotion to Mary has always been strong in the school, honouring its name. Sr. Sophie and the Society of the Sacred Heart were invited to continue that devotion into the future.
