The COP26 summit has started. It will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It is a crucial moment. Please pray for its success.
Some FCJ Sisters and a Companion in Mission are actually in Glasgow during COP26:
- Jane, Companion in Mission from Ireland, is in the COP venue itself. Jane is Laudato Si‘ Officer at Trócaire and also part of the Laudato Si‘ Movement.
- Sisters Lynne fcJ and MaryAnne fcJ, from Liverpool, are running some workshops with UK National Office for Vocation (www.sowingseedsofthefuture.org) at the Pauline Bookshop in the city centre on Discernment, Planting Seeds of Hope, and What our faith teaches (Pope Francis and Laudato Si‘) on Friday 5th-Sunday 7th November. They are also organising a slot for the 24 Hours for the Climate vigil at 9pm on Friday. On Saturday 6th November they will be at the Mass at St Aloysius Jesuit Church at 9am on Saturday, the big march in the streets of Glasgow, and NightFever in the evening
- Sr Christine fcJ, from Glasgow, was at the Interfaith Prayer and Meditation Vigil on October 31st and will be part of many zoom meetings during the week including the big Saturday March, collaborating with Interfaith Scotland.
- Sr Alicia fcJ, from Manchester, is volunteering at the People’s Summit on Sunday 7th Nov and Monday 8th Nov
- Sr Rachel fcJ, from Liverpool, is also present – she isn’t going to join a particular event but is praying alongside all that is taking place
Of course, other sisters, Companions in Mission, FCJ schools and friends will be supporting COP26 efforts nearer home. For example Sisters Patricia, Ruth, Judith, Mary, Gloria, Rita and Bernie from two London communities joined the candle-lit procession from Westminster Catholic Cathedral to Farm Street Jesuit church and London Jesuit Centre on 1st November praying for successful climate negotiations at Cop26.
