The FCJ community in Flores, Indonesia, supports the education of students from poor families. This support is financial but it also extends to other aspects of life. Here they report on a recollection day
One of our projects in our area is helping the education for poor families. We do this by giving scholarships to some high school and university students. In the school year 2019-2020, we are supporting 17 high school students from five different schools, and two college students from Flores University in Ende. Besides supporting them with tuition, we offer a day of recollection every three months to support their spiritual growth and human development. It is usually on the third Sunday of the month. It is a chance for them as well to meet other students from different schools. They appreciate and enjoy these meetings.
The last recollection day was in March 2020, The topic was decision making/discernment to prepare those who are graduating from high school. We used variety of methods such as input, games, reflection and sharing. They found it very helpful. For us this is one of our ways to be involved with young people and to share our FCJ charism with them. Being in touch with them has given us energy and enthusiasm to make our FCJ Society better known. So, indeed there is a mutuality. They are helped and we get chance to make FCJ spirituality more widely available, especially to the youth.
May they continue to develop their potential through education and the accompaniment they receive as FCJ scholars. And may God’s name be glorified through all that we do.
