Neighbors in Poplar celebrated receiving the Queen’s Award for Volunteers recently, when a group representing some of the volunteers and trustees received a beautiful certificate and an award from the Lord Lieutenant in London. The award evening took place in most auspicious surroundings – Sainsbury’s head office – not quite so auspicious as the Palace but they certainly had a lovely evening.
The Queen’s Award for Volunteers is the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK. Neighbours in Poplar received the award for offering care and support to vulnerable people in the community for 50 years.
Sister Christine, fcJ, one of the founders and the current Manager, says: Neighbours in Poplar is delighted to receive this award and are extremely grateful to the volunteers who have committed themselves to the Poplar Community over the years.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols will visit Neighbours in Poplar in their base at St Matthias Centre in October during a tea party, as part of our 50th year celebration.
Neighbours in Poplar continues supporting Care4Calais and the Refugee Community Kitchen with a mini-bus full of donations and volunteers ready for October 5th. Please remember the migrants in Dunkirk who have just been evicted from their makeshift camps and sent off all over France.
