5 metre high mosaic of Madonna and Child.Difficult Choices ....
Madonna and Child ... Newlands FCJ, Middlesbrough, England

In September 2009 Newlands FCJ School and St David's School in Middlesbrough, England, amalgamated to form Trinity Catholic College, a school to be run by Middlesbrough Catholic Diocese.

A school re-building programme was started to provide accommodation fit for 21st century education. The building, adjacent to the former Newlands School, is now complete and pupils and staff are enjoying the new facilities.

A feature of the main entrance of the former Newlands School was a strikingly beautiful 5m high mosaic of the Madonna and Child.  This work of art was commissioned in Spain in 1963 and brought by sea and land in a special crate.

Although it had been envisaged that the mosaic would be incorporated into the new buildings there was little scope for its inclusion and  financial constraints prevented relocating the mosaic. Sadly it was demolished at the end of August 2011.
