125 years since the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus came to Calgary
Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus —January 2nd, 2010

Holy Name of Jesus.

What a wonderful celebration we had for this feast which also marked 125 years since the Faithful Companions of Jesus began to minister in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Many sisters and some Filipina women came to help set up for afternoon tea and stayed on for lunch.

Chapel at Sacred Heart Convent, Calgary.

The chapel looked resplendent with beautiful arrays of poinsettias, flowers and other greenery.  Many of our Companions in Mission, sisters from other religious orders, friends and FCJs filled the chapel.

The main presider at our Eucharist was Father Rupert McLellan  assisted by three concelebrants.  The echo of the opening hymn ‘Joy to the World’ resounded around the chapel and set a marvellous atmosphere for our thanksgiving liturgy.

Following the Eucharist, FCJs, Companions in Mission and guests congregated for refreshments and much animated conversation.

Our 125th Anniversary in Calgary coincides with the 125th Anniversary of the Calgary Catholic School Board. It was the FCJ Sisters who opened the first Catholic School in Calgary and Mary Greene fcJ was the first Superintendent. Calgary Catholic began their year of celebration with the start of the new school year in August 2009.
