Mary Emmanuel Dwyer fcJ celebrates 100 years of life!
2nd January 2015
On January 2nd, the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus (January 3rd) was anticipated at Maryville Residence FCJ Laurel Hill for the celebration of 100 years of life of Mary Emmanuel Dwyer.
Sixteen members of her family joined twenty-two FCJs for the Eucharist, presided over by Fr. John Goode CssR.
It’s good for the elderly to communicate their wisdom to the young; and it’s good for the young to gather this wealth of experience and wisdom, and to carry it forward, not so as to safeguard it in a museum, but to carry it forward addressing the challenges that life brings, to carry it forward for the sake of their respective religious orders and of the whole Church.
Pope Francis, Feb 2nd, 2014
All adjourned to the dining room for a festive meal prepared by the staff, for the cutting of the cake made by Geraldine Lennon fcJ and for speeches and presentations.
Lelia Manning fcJ (in March to be 100 years old also) presented a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Margarita Byron and the FCJs of the Province. There followed the reading of special greetings from Margarita, Claire and the President of Ireland (who gives a cheque for €2,500 to every centenarian).
The day concluded with a delightful sharing of memories and then all gathered around Mary Emmanuel extending hands in blessing whilst they sang:
I thank my God each time I think of you …
and when I pray for you, I pray with joy!
Congratulations from all FCJs!
