Changeover of General Leadership —
February 10, 2014
For several hours daily from February 8-10 the outgoing Central Leadership group met with the new Leadership group to share information and experiences.
In the midst of their own preparations for departure from Gumley House, Katherine Mary, Susan, Frances and Paula were very generous with their time as they highlighted various important aspects of their roles of service to the Society.
A special birthday prayer service and festive dinner caught Claire by surprise on February 9. Laughter and a delicious meal were a welcome break from the work of endings and beginnings.
Midday Mass on February 10 was celebrated by Fr. Chris Boles, SJ, from the Farm Street Jesuit community. He chose the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit and interspersed the Mass prayers with comments appropriate to the occasion. The First Reading reminded us that “…there are all sorts of service to be done, but always to the same Lord” ( 1 Cor. 12:3-7, 12-13 ). The gospel was about Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles for the sake of mission (John 20: 19-23).
After a special luncheon, Claire, Trish, Barbara and Joanna had a brief tour of the house to become familiar with where things are located.
The handover ritual, prepared by Kathryn Lennon, was held in chapel at 5:30pm. It was a prayer of farewell and welcome. This was the quote on the cover: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord…plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Claire and her Assistants were each given a gift box with three bulbs and the pots and soil for them to grow indoors. The refrain of the final song expresses the spirit of the prayer service:
For all that has been,
For your blessings without number
We offer thanks to you, O God.
And for all that shall be,
For all that is to come,
We say yes, we say yes.
