Celebrating Twenty Years in Romania
January 12th 1994 to January 12th 2004
Here in Romania, January 12th 2014 launched us on a year of celebration and thanksgiving for twenty years of FCJ mission here.
The day itself was marked by a celebratory meal together, a special community prayer during which we read extracts from the annals of 1994 and mentioned every single FCJ who, since then, has contributed to our mission here.
We also spent time listening to Imelda’s memories of arriving in Bucharest and then moving on to Galaţi with Mary Kelly two days later. We linked up with Margaret Kennedy and Mary Kelly who left London with Imelda on January 12th 1994 and with Maeve Shannon who, with Imelda, had researched the FCJ mission in Eastern Europe.
We were in awe of our sisters’ courage and of God’s grace at work. (You can read a little about the story of the FCJ Sisters in Romania here.)
We want to thank you for your prayers and for the many messages you sent us as we launched our celebrations. Many events will mark the year ahead, including the re-printing in Romanian of “God’s Faithful Instrument” by Patricia Grogan and the first printing in Romanian of Mary Campion McCarren’s “Faithful Companion of Jesus: Marie Madeleine d’Houët”.
