Leaving North Carolina …
When Joanna Walsh fcJ was elected a general assistant to Mary Claire Sykes fcJ duriing the Society's General Chapter in October 2013, it marked the beginning of the end of FCJ presence in the Raleigh Diocese in North Carolina. Sr. Joanna moved to London to begin her new role in February 2014.
The FCJ Sisters first went to Durham in 1996 and there was an FCJ presence for 18 years until Joanna's departure. We thank God for their presence.
In 2006 a Training Program for the Ministry of Spiritual Direction was set up in the FCJ Spirituality Centre and on June 6, 2008 ten men and women received certificates of completion of the two-year program. Mary Leahy fcJ and Joanna Walsh fcJ were facilitators of the Program, which was based on an Ignatian model. More...

Bishop Burbidge expressed his gratitude to Sister Joanna for her many years of service to the Church in eastern North Carolina, saying Sister Joanna leaves our Diocese having faithfully served on our Diocesan Ecumenical Commission and the Cathedral Building Committee, along with many in our Diocese, including those students at Duke University, who upon graduation, have become Catholic leaders in our country. As Sister Joanna now begins this new service to assist the General Superior of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, I assure her of my prayerful best wishes and those of all the faithful here in the Diocese of Raleigh.
