First Vows of Caecilia Pirenaningtyas (Tyas)
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, July 7 2013
Vows are to FCJs as weddings are to families – several days of joy as the happy result of careful planning and hard work. Tyas’ first vows on Sunday 7 July in Soropadan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, were no exception – the ceremonies extended across three days – three wonderful days that were an inspiration and encouragement to all of us.
On the evening of 6 July we had a beautiful welcome ceremony during which Barbara FCJ welcomed Tyas into the FCJ Society as a professed member. The more the prayer progressed the more Tyas began to glow with delight, her look of joy grew increasingly great hour by hour.
July 7th dawned, a perfect day for a vow ceremony! As Tyas’ family and friends and other invited guests arrived the room filled and the excitement began to grow. The choir was comprised of our friends and contacts including our Companions in Mission. A beautiful Eucharist was celebrated by Fr Asodo OMI. Tyas pronounced her vows in a voice resonant with “courage and confidence.” Barbara received the vows which were witnessed by Irene and Clare FCJ.
Following the vow ceremony we shared a delicious lunch and the opportunity to celebrate with our guests.
The FCJs gathered again in the evening of 7th for Tyas’ missioning ceremony. Tyas is missioned to Baciro Community, to teaching in an Agricultural School, to part-time study and to running our “Development Fund” (charitable projects).
At the end of our day we prayed for all those united with us in love and prayer during the vows, we sang the Magnificat and gave thanks to God for a truly grace-filled weekend.
