Maria Fidelis Convent School Gospel Choir –
Coming Events – September/October 2010
Watch them live on Friday 17th September at 10:15am !
The highlight of the past school year was undoubtedly winning the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year Competition 2010, an honour which has brought many new opportunities to the Choir. (Watch them live on the BBC Songs of Praise website).
The Choir has been motivated by the knowledge that their singing really does touch and inspire people, and the girls have been encouraged as they realise what they can achieve through dedication and hard work. The choir has become like a big family; it enables girls from all year groups to sing praises, learn and grow together, aspire for excellence in all aspects of life and education, develop their capacity for teamwork, leadership and a positive attitude to face challenges, as well as learn respect and honour for themselves and others.
The Choir has been chosen by the Catholic Education Service of England and Wales to sing for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI during his forthcoming state visit to the UK in September. They will be the only secondary school singing at the education event, The Big Assembly, where they will sing from their own repertoire and lead the congregational singing for the participants, 3,000 young people from schools from across the United Kingdom.
The Papal visit, including The Big Assembly, will be broadcast live by the BBC, ITV and Sky, and you can also watch it live on the papal visit website. The Big Assembly is at 10.15 on Friday 17th September.
The choir will feature in two more BBC Songs of Praise programmes.
- a programme celebrating involvement in the Papal visit will be screened on 12th September on BBC1 at about 5.20pm.
- a second BBC programme will be screened on 17th October for Children in Need.
We hope you will be able to watch and listen.
The choir is, as always, grateful for our encouragement and support.
